About

Cross to Crown International (CCI) initially began as an unknown desire in the heart of Mike Halverson.  When Mike was a child his own father, a school teacher, participated in a mission trip.  Upon his return he shared stories with his family of his experiences.  Mike was captivated of how his father described his time there and unbeknownst to him, a seed was planted.  Fast forward to 1997, Mike decided to go on a two week mission trip to the jungles of Nicaragua; he had no idea that this trip would change his life.  He was met with extreme living conditions- no running water or electricity and poor roads.  The jungle region of Nicaragua is the poorest Hispanic country in the entire world.  Somehow being met with the challenging living conditions paired with a sincere and earnest people- the Miskito Indians- hungry for the word of God and eager to be of service, moved something within Mike and he returned to the States eager to tell his wife Diana of his time there and to invite her to see for herself.  Diana at the time however, was not as enthralled.  Mother to their 4 children and a full-time employee as a Mechanic, she had her hands full.  It wasn’t until later that she was able to see for herself…and when she did her world too was transformed.  The sincerity of the people moved her heart to service and she too desired to be of service.  Quitting her full-time job, Diana moved forward in faith, eager to see what God had in store.

Eventually, Mike and Diana moved to Nicaragua to begin mission work, helping with building projects.  They stayed for a year with their two youngest sons in a hut with no running water, but with the Living Water coursing through their veins, they pressed forward in service determined to do their best to help the Miskito Indians in any way that they could.  It was during their stay that a group of Miskito Indians from a distant village traveled to meet the missionaries.  They told the Halverson’s that “God has never been to our village.”  “He doesn’t know who we are.”  They asked the family to talk with God and ask Him to come to their village.  The Halverson’s visited the village and instantly saw the effects of witchcraft and voodoo heavily about the area.  They immediately felt challenged and impressed to help these people, however with poor road conditions they surmised that a radio station would be the most effective way to be able to reach that as well other surrounding villages.  They knew that they did not having the means, but they placed it all in God’s hands.

Upon returning to the States they began soliciting other churches to aid in their endeavors and the rewards of their dedication has been endless.  Slowly, yet steadily, the donations poured in.  While the Halverson’s continued to work and plan, Diana committed to obtaining her RN so she could begin to assist medically in the clinics that had been established back in Nicaragua.  In 2006, they were able to found Cross to Crown International and have since established 2 radio stations and are currently partnered with 2 other stations in the area; they also have accomplished solar powered as well as battery back-up for the stations.  They have built a physical plant as well as clinics and churches during their several mission trips there.  Recently, they were able to establish a well system in the area that has enabled the people to be able to have access to drinking water.  There is still so much more to do and though there are several challenges, CCI is committed to continue to bring the love of God to the Miskito Indians of Nicaragua as well as to people worldwide.
